How to avoid Advance Fee Schemes

• Do your research. Often times, each specific scam is targeted at thousands of people. That means that an Internet search of details will likely turn up reports of the scam.
• If someone representing a company contacts you, you should be able to get in touch with that company using a publicly-listed phone number or address. Never use the telephone number or address provided with you by a company with which you are unfamiliar to confirm the offer.
• Always verify that you are doing business with a legitimate company before you offer any sensitive information.
